Colorado Springs cancer patient wins pot appeal

· December 20, 2013 ·

DENVER—The Colorado Court of Appeals has ruled that a judge was correct when he ordered Colorado Springs police to return more than 60 pounds of marijuana to a cancer patient who was acquitted of drug charges. Attorneys for Robert Crouse say the victory adds clout to a pending lawsuit against the city over the destruction of Crouse’s marijuana, which they say spoiled while in police custody. According to the Colorado Springs Gazette ( http://tinyurl.com/n7q8prw ), Crouse wants to be reimbursed for up to $300,000. At issue is a provision in the state constitution requiring that police properly care for any pot seized during medical marijuana investigations and that it be returned should the owner be acquitted of wrongdoing. Authorities said returning the marijuana could violate federal law. ——— Information from: The Gazette, http://www.gazette.com Policies Report an Error Contact Us Submit a News Tip … [Read more...] about Colorado Springs cancer patient wins pot appeal

Across China: Fishing ban brings rare fish back to China’s largest freshwater lake

· April 13, 2021 ·

Video Player Close NANCHANG, April 13 (Xinhua) -- It had been almost 10 years since Wang Shengbian, an aquatic animal specialist, last saw an ochetobius elongatus in Poyang Lake, China's largest freshwater lake. The fish, about 23 cm long and weighing 47.4 grams, was discovered during routine monitoring of the lake. Ochetobius elongatus used to be a common fish species in the Yangtze River basin. However, due to environmental destruction, overfishing and human disturbance, the fish stock has reduced rapidly. It has become a critically endangered species. "I was pleasantly surprised and contacted other experts to double-check the species," said Wang. "The small fish is about one year old, which indicates that its population is recovering." According to Wang, the last time the species was spotted was in 2012. "It was like they had disappeared for a decade," he said. "Poyang Lake has been 'sick.'" On Jan. 1, 2021, a 10-year fishing ban took effect in pivotal waters of the … [Read more...] about Across China: Fishing ban brings rare fish back to China’s largest freshwater lake

US May Have Received ‘Veiled’ Notice of Alleged Israeli Attack on Iran’s Natanz, Claims Report

· April 13, 2021 ·

Despite the recent alleged attack on Iran’s Natanz nuclear facility that Tehran blamed on Israel, United States and Iranian officials seem intent on resuming nuclear talks this week in Vienna, reports Politico . The indirect negotiations between Tehran and Washington, dedicated to bringing back the US into the Iran deal, or the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), after then-president Donald Trump unilaterally scrapped it in 2018, started on 6 April. Amid tensions sparked by Sunday’s Natanz incident, there has been no indication that indirect talks scheduled to resume later this week, likely Wednesday, in Vienna, could be derailed, writes the outlet. On Sunday morning, the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) reported that the Natanz facility had suffered an incident involving its electricity distribution network, with the AEOI chief Ali Akbar Salehi referring to it as “nuclear terrorism." © AP Photo / Atomic Energy Organization of Iran This … [Read more...] about US May Have Received ‘Veiled’ Notice of Alleged Israeli Attack on Iran’s Natanz, Claims Report
