For the second year in a row, Chick-fil-A is focusing its "True Inspiration Awards" on Black-led nonprofits and nonprofits that impact communities of color. On Tuesday, the fast food chain announced that applications for the 2022 grant program are now open until May 31. Chick-fil-A will be giving a total of $5 million in grants to 34 nonprofits that focus on education, homelessness and hunger. In order to be eligible , nonprofits have to be based in the U.S. or Canada and either "have a majority Black board of directors, executive leadership and staff or provide services that currently and intentionally impact Black communities or other communities of color in a quantifiable or measurable way," the website says . Oprah Winfrey picks novel about slavery for her new book club series

Oprah Winfrey on Monday (Sep 23) announced the top pick of her recast popular book club, choosing The Water Dancer by critically acclaimed author Ta-Nehisi Coates, his debut novel about slavery. "It is one of the best books I have ever read in my entire life," Winfrey said on CBS This Morning, announcing the inaugural selection for her re-activated Oprah's Book Club, set to premiere on Apple TV on Nov 1. Coates, who joined Winfrey in the CBS television segment, said being picked for the media mogul's king-maker book club was a "tremendous, tremendous honour. "This is like a huge honour for me," said Coates, whose many literature prizes include the 2015 National Book Award for Nonfiction for Between The World And Me."
