Photographs: Amit Dave/Reuters There was finally some joy among the gloom as fans thronged the Narendra Modi stadium in Motera for the second Test between India and England. The N M stadium took over from the Melbourne Cricket Ground as the world's biggest cricket stadium on Wednesday, February 24, 2021, and Team India made sure their fans left a happy lot even though the game didn't even last two days. Fans, who were deprived of live cricketing action this past year because of the COVID-19 pandemic, made sure to flock to the stadium in large numbers. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, only 55,000 fans were allowed to attend the match, but there was no shortage of passion as fans came in early through the gates to watch the cricketers in action. There was no shortage of entertainment on the field as … [Read more...] about Cricketing Carnival in Ahmedabad!

‘Not sure if that’s good for Test cricket’: Former cricketers slam Motera pitch

· February 26, 2021 ·

After India's crushing 10-wicket win against England in the third Test in Ahmedabad, which saw the contest get wrapped inside two days, several former cricketers were highly critical of the pitch. Many, including India's 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh, felt it was not an ideal track for a Test match. The former Indian cricketer took to Twitter to express his disappointment and claimed that spin legends like Harbhajan Singh and Anil Kumble would have scalped over 800 wickets if such tracks were available during his playing days. "Finished in 2 days Not sure if that's good for test cricket !If @anilkumble1074 and @harbhajan_singh bowled on these kind of wickets they would be sitting on a thousand and 800?" Yuvraj tweeted on Thursday. finished in 2 days Not sure if that’s good for test cricket !If @anilkumble1074 and @harbhajan_singh bowled on these kind of wickets they would be sitting on a thousand and 800 ?However congratulations to @akshar2026 what a spell! … [Read more...] about ‘Not sure if that’s good for Test cricket’: Former cricketers slam Motera pitch

Motera Pitch Controversy: Opinions Polarised as British Media Reacts After England’s Crushing Defeat to India

· February 26, 2021 ·

British media seems to be a divided house as they reacted to England’s dramatic 10-wicket defeat at the hands of India in the third Test on Thursday. The contest didn’t even last two days with spinners accounting for 28 of the 30 wickets to have fallen at the Narendra Modi Stadium which was hosting its first international match since undergoing renovation. The defeat meant England were knocked out from the race for ICC World Test Championship final with India now needing just a draw to qualify. Australia are still in contention to join New Zealand in the summit clash but that depends on India’s defeat in the fourth and final Test of the series set to be played at the same venue from March 4. The manner in which the batting of both the teams folded left to a sharp criticism from several former players including the likes of Yuvraj Singh, VVS Laxman, Michael Vaughan among others with the pitch branded “not ideal” for Test cricket. The Guardian though chose to focus on England’s … [Read more...] about Motera Pitch Controversy: Opinions Polarised as British Media Reacts After England’s Crushing Defeat to India

India vs England 3rd Test: Will India be docked 3 points, Joe Root says ICC should decide

· February 26, 2021 ·

The third Test between India and England at the Narendra Modi Stadium was one of the shortest in the history of Test cricket, finishing well within two days in Ahmedabad with Virat Kohli’s side emerging victorious by 10 wickets. They are now at the top of the World Test Championships (WTC) table with 490 points but the International Cricket Council (ICC) can still deduct three points from their tally if they deem the pitch in Ahmedabad to be ‘unfit’ for Test cricket. The International Cricket Council (ICC) rules say that if a pitch is rated poor then the home team would be docked three points. “A poor pitch is one that does not even allow an even contest between bat and ball, either by favouring batters too much, and not giving the bowlers (seam and spin) from either side sufficient opportunity to take wickets, or by favouring the bowlers too much (seam or spin), and not giving the batters from either team the opportunity to make runs,” ICC rules state. The rules further … [Read more...] about India vs England 3rd Test: Will India be docked 3 points, Joe Root says ICC should decide

World Test Championships: India zoom to top of table, find out what they need to reach final

· February 26, 2021 ·

India posted a massive 10-wicket win in the third Test against England at the Narendra Modi stadium in Ahmedabad inside two day. The win means that Virat Kohli’s side have now catapulted to the top of the World Test Championships (WTC) ranking with 490 points, well ahead of New Zealand in 420. The home side now just need to ensure that they don’t lose the final Test, which will also be played in Ahmedabad starting March 4, because a win or a draw against England will be enough to reach the WTC final later this year at Lord’s. The loss on Thursday (February 25) means that England are now out of the race to make the final but if they defeat India in the fourth and final Test, Australia will leapfrog India and make the final against New Zealand. Kohli and Co. have played six series in the WTC 2019-21 cycle in which they have won 11 Tests, lost four matches and played a single draw. India have a solid winning percentage of 71 and have accumulated 490 points so far after the … [Read more...] about World Test Championships: India zoom to top of table, find out what they need to reach final
