Federal Court Upholds Ohio Ban On Aborting Babies Because Of Down Syndrome

A federal appeals court ruled Tuesday that Ohio may enforce its ban on abortions based on a diagnosis of Down syndrome. The 6th Circuit Court of Appeals said in a 9-7 decision that Ohio’s law was “valid in all conceivable cases” and that it did not substantially block a woman’s ability to get an abortion . The law, which was challenged by Planned Parenthood and other abortion providers, prohibits a person from performing an abortion on a pregnant woman seeking the abortion because her baby has Down syndrome. (RELATED: Arizona House Passes Bill Banning Abortions Based On Genetic Abnormality) Circuit Judge Alice Batchelder wrote in Tuesday’s majority opinion that the law promotes Ohio’s interests through “protecting the integrity and ethics of the medical profession by preventing doctors from becoming knowing participants in Down-syndrome-selective abortions.” AMAZING NEWS! Once upon a time, tourists in Turkey eagerly made their way to Hagia Sophia—a historic architectural marvel shimmering with the golden light of ancient mosaics. Although marred by many centuries, images of Jesus, Mary and John the Baptist reflect the spirit of a fledgling Christian world. In fact, Turkey's earliest churches are recalled in the New Testament itself—in Antioch, where St. Paul began his missionary journeys, and in the Seven Churches portrayed by St. John in his Book of Revelation.
