His family released a statement, posted to his Twitter account, which read: "The family of Peter Mayhew, with deep love and sadness, regrets to share the news that Peter has passed away. He left us the evening of April 30, 2019 with his family by his side in his North Texas home." A DOG named after Star Wars’ Chewbacca and stranded far, far away is on its way home after embassy staff stepped in to help. Nine-month-old shih tzu Chewy — a double for Han Solo’s wookiee pal, right — looked to be stuck in Mexico after his pet passport was lost. But after a week’s worry for owner Karan Lund and his wife Karen, a Good Samaritan found it and called the British Embassy. Staff there went out of their way to contact the couple through their vet in Britain and return the passport to Karen, who had delayed her trip home to sort out the paperwork. Last night, British ambassador Corin Robertson wished Chewy a good trip home, adding: “Doggy diplomacy. The British actor who played Darth Vader in the original Star Wars trilogy died from corona­virus, his daughter has said. David Prowse, a former bodybuilder, was best known for playing the iconic super-villain in the original three George Lucas movies. The Bristol-born star, who towered over cast members at 6ft 6ins, had been in a London hospital for two weeks with Covid. He was 85. Paying tribute, his daughter Rachel, 50, said: 'He might have looked quite scary but as a person he was a sweet, kind and generous man. He really was a gentle giant. And to us he was our dad.' She added: 'It’s horrible that Covid restrictions meant we did not get to see him and say goodbye. But when we went to collect his stuff from the hospital the nurse said what a cool guy he was. Those dreading that Porgs might be the next Ewoks, or even worse, Jar Jar Binks, have something new to worry about this morning. With just weeks left to go before Star Wars: The Last Jedi is in theaters for all to see, we get a brief sixteen seconds of mostly new footage. And it's jokes galore. The biggest one having to do with a flying Porg . Even before it's release, fans have worried that The Last Jedi was going to be too dark. It will show Rey struggle to transition to the Dark side , while Luke is a grumpy old hermit not unlike Yoda the first time we met him in Empire Strikes Back . There are some heavy themes in Star Wars 8 , some of which may be too overwhelming for young kids. But fret not, those who like their Star Wars on the light side of the force.
