Three things that could derail Boris Johnson’s timetable for easing lockdown

· February 24, 2021 ·

Boris Johnson has said he is "very optimistic" that England can finally return to normal life on June 21 under his four-step roadmap out of lockdown. However the Prime Minister warned that "nothing can be guaranteed", as the Government maintains a cautious approach to freeing Brits from the limits governing daily life. The document states: "Around four weeks is required to see the impact of the previous step in the data and the Government has committed to … [Read more...] about Three things that could derail Boris Johnson’s timetable for easing lockdown

‘Boris Johnson has become our gaslighting boyfriend so let’s dump him and move on’

· February 23, 2021 ·

That gnawing worry deep in the pit of your stomach, all of the time. Living on eggshells, constantly on edge, control completely surrendered. Being too scared to hope that today might be OK, because that makes it worse when it’s not. Steeling yourself for disappointments – which will be billed as your fault – in advance, so maybe they’ll hurt less, which turns out not to work. I thought my time at the mercy of terrible boyfriends had come to an end when I married someone nice, so how am I back in an emotionally abusive relationship? Boris Johnson has somehow turned me, and the whole country, into his long-suffering partner. On Monday he revealed his roadmap out of lockdown, which – unlike all the other times – is sensible. I was expecting the opposite, the absolute worst, because that’s all I’ve ever known from him. Instead, a novel experience – I was pleasantly surprised. But then, once the stunned relief had worn off, it was hard not to notice all he’d actually … [Read more...] about ‘Boris Johnson has become our gaslighting boyfriend so let’s dump him and move on’

· February 24, 2021 ·

Sir Lewis Hamilton's pursuit for glory at this year's British Grand Prix could be staged in front of a 140,000-capacity crowd, according to Silverstone boss Stuart Pringle. The Formula One race, a highlight of the British sporting summer, is due to take place on July 18, four weeks after Prime Minister Boris Johnson plans to end Covid-19 restrictions in England. Hamilton, who has won the British GP a record seven times, will this season be bidding to win an unprecedented eighth world championship. And his latest attempt to make more history on home soil could take place in front of a sold-out Silverstone, with the Northamptonshire circuit in regular discussions with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport. "A full crowd is still absolutely on the table," Pringle told the PA news agency. "Silverstone is not a tight stadium in the same way that a football stadium is or a tennis court. "Our 70,000 grandstand seats are spread out over three-and-a-half miles. We … [Read more...] about Lewis Hamilton’s hopes of British GP pursuit in front of 140,000 fans handed huge boost
