WASHINGTON (AP) — Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-Dublin), who served as a House manager in Donald Trump’s last impeachment, filed a lawsuit Friday against the former president, his son, lawyer and a Republican congressman whose actions he charges led to January’s insurrection. The East Bay Democrat’s suit was filed Friday in federal court in Washington. It alleges a conspiracy to violate civil rights, along with negligence, inciting a riot and inflicting emotional distress. It follows a similar suit filed by Rep. Bennie Thompson last month in an attempt to hold the former president accountable in some way for his actions Jan. 6, following his Senate acquittal. Rep. Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) has said Donald Trump is "losing it" after a recent statement issued by the former president. The Quote Sharing Trump's latest statement, Kinzinger wrote: "Oh my Lord. He is losing it." Why it Matters The thrust of Trump's statement was taking aim at Republican strategist Karl Rove, after he wrote an opinion piece for The Wall Street Journal suggesting the former president's Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) speech was lacking. Rove suggested the speech had "no forward-looking agenda," instead branding it a "recitation of his greatest hits." In his statement, Trump rallied against Rove and Republicans who have opposed him. President Joe Biden 's Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo praised former President Donald Trump 's tariffs targeting China as "effective," despite Biden previously criticizing his predecessor's levies targeting Chinese imports. Raimondo, the former governor of Rhode Island, was confirmed to her Cabinet role in the Biden administration by an 84 to 15 Senate vote on Tuesday. In an interview with MSNBC broadcast Thursday morning, Raimondo raised concerns about China and reiterated that the Biden administration plans to take a tough stance against the East Asian nation.
