Conservatives, the thinking ones at least, know why they came up badly short in last November’s federal election. Simply put, under Andrew Scheer they failed to offer a forward-thinking vision that would expand the party’s support beyond its western and rural base into vote-rich regions like the GTA and Greater Montreal. The world has changed in ways we could not have imagined in the eight months since Scheer announced he would step down as leader. The coronavirus hadn’t even been identified. The biggest national issue we seemed to face was a resurgence of western alienation. How quaint. Who is best-placed to appeal to the many urban and suburban voters who don’t believe the party has fully embraced the realities of Canada in the 21st century? To which one must now add: who is likely to craft the most effective alternative to the expansive (and no doubt expensive) … [Read more...] about Peter MacKay is the best choice to take Conservatives forward
Old school versus new school baseball? Central Private wants to put a new spin on that concept. The 11th-seeded Redhawks travel to Shreveport to take on No. 3 Calvary Baptist in a Division IV best-of-three quarterfinal series that begins at 6 p.m. Friday. A year ago, Central Private was ineligible for the playoffs as a new LHSAA school. But the pandemic stopped the 2020 season, which was coach Seth Stevens’ first at the school. Our goal was to clinch a playoff berth in the first year we could do so and we accomplished that. "Obviously we have never played Calvary before, but we know about their program and tradition. This is the next step for us.” … [Read more...] about Primed for playoffs: Central Private enters quarterfinals as newcomer with a notable tradition
