Karnataka IAS officer BM Vijay Shankar, accused in multi-crore I Monetary Advisory Ponzi scam, found dead in Bengaluru

Bengaluru: Karnataka IAS officer BM Vijay Shankar, accused in multi-crore I Monetary Advisory (IMA) Ponzi scam, allegedly committed suicide at his residence in Jayanagar (Bengaluru) on Tuesday (June 23) evening. The police are investigating the matter and the reason is yet to be ascertained. Earlier, Vijay Shankar was arrested by the SIT in connection with a multi-crore 'IMA Ponzi scam' in 2019 on allegations of taking bribe of Rs 1.5 crore from a company. He was later released on bail. The government had ordered his suspension after his arrest. When the case was handed over to the CBI for the investigation, they also filed an FIR against Vijay Shankar. The CBI had also sought the State government's permission to prosecute him in May 2020. Vijay Shankar was the Deputy Commissioner for Urban Bengaluru district. RSS-affiliate Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh plans protest against disinvestment of PSUs

The Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) affiliated to the RSS has announced a phase-wide agitation from March 15 to November 11 against the proposed disinvestment programme of the public sector units (PSUs) by the Union government. A young medico lost her life due to poor roads on Saturday. BM starts a campaign to ensure there is no loss of life or limb in future. We start with Assaye Road A day after a first-year MBBS student died on Hennur Road, many people have expressed concern over the condition of roads in the city. Bangalore Mirror did a test drive of one important road -- Assaye Road, one part of which has been dug up for the last nine months. It’s an important road which connects Ulsoor and Pulakeshi Nagar. Motorists are forced to ride on the disintegrated road for over a kilometre, putting their lives at risk. The road was dug up by the Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) in May last year but the damaged stretch has not been restored yet. The condition of the road is so bad that some motorists are driving against the flow of traffic. The repair costs a few lakhs. College ceiling plaster breaks off, 3 hurt

Maharaja’s College students allege negligence Three students of Maharaja’s College in Mysuru suffered injuries after a portion of the ceiling plasterting collapsed on Wednesday. The incident ocurred when 1st and 2nd year students of M.Sc Criminology and Forensic Science were writing their internal exams . Meanwhile, the incident created panic and the other students rushed out of the hall. The Vice-Chancellor of Mysore University and management of Maharaja’s College were alerted about the incident. Professor Shivappa, Registrar of University of Mysore, rushed to the campus following the incident. He was taken to task by the students who alleged that the university and college authorities had turned a blind eye to the grievances of the students. They questioned him over why the authorities failed to act even when they had submitted a memorandum to the university predicting such an incident a year ago.
