Google to shorten Chrome update cycle to four weeks

· March 5, 2021 ·

Google has announced the regular version of Chrome will release new updates every four weeks, starting with Chrome 94 in Q3 2021. Previously, Google had been delivering new releases every six weeks, with smaller patches rolled out intermittently. The decision to shorten the release cycle was due to it seeing improvements to testing and release processes for Chrome, Google Chrome Operations technical program manager Alex Mineer said in a blog post . As part of the change, Google said it would offer a new extended stable version of Chrome, which will be available to enterprise administrators and Chromium embedders who need additional time to manage updates. This version of Chrome will provide milestone updates every eight weeks instead. While security updates on the extended stable option will be released every two weeks to fix important issues, those updates will not contain new features or all of the security fixes that will be provided to the four-week option for the regular … [Read more...] about Google to shorten Chrome update cycle to four weeks

At the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, climbers got a little glimpse of heaven

· March 5, 2021 ·

It looked like COVID-19 was going to ruin a bucket-list adventure. But when a window of opportunity opened, Delia Taylor and Mary Beth Hughes, climbed right through. And kept on climbing. On Feb. 3, after a seven-day trek, Taylor, 55, and Hughes, 25, reached the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, the world’s tallest free-standing mountain at 19,341 feet above sea level. “To stand on top at times looked like what only heaven could be imagined to look like,” said Taylor, of Denham Springs. Hughes, who grew up in Denham Springs and now works as an assignment editor for the Fox News Channel in Washington, D.C., had toyed with the idea of climbing Kilimanjaro for several years. Some friends had done it, and she thought she had the skills and stamina to tackle the daunting challenge. But she didn’t want to do it alone, and she couldn’t find a friend to go with her. Upcoming SpaceX flight will be only the latest thrill ride for Baton Rouge native Hayley Arceneaux “Believe it or … [Read more...] about At the top of Mount Kilimanjaro, climbers got a little glimpse of heaven

How did Baton Rouge accountant spend 50th birthday? Conquering Mount Kilimanjaro

· November 24, 2018 ·

This time last year, as Deborah Dalgo contemplated the approach of her 50th birthday, she decided to celebrate it in a big way. More precisely, in a tall way. Now the Baton Rouge accountant, who had never climbed a mountain before, can scratch climbing Mount Kilimanjaro off her bucket list. “I don’t know where the original thought came from, because I know no one who’s a mountain climber,” Dalgo said. “We live in flat Louisiana, for crying out loud.” She still does. But the summit of Africa's tallest peak is now in her rearview mirror. On June 30, a day before her life odometer rolled over to 50, Dalgo reached the snow-covered, 19,341-foot peak in Tanzania. That ended seven days of climbing and months of planning. Unable to find someone to join her on the adventure, Dalgo decided to go it alone. She had to overcome her fears of going to Africa by herself as well as prepare for the physical challenge, which was hard to do locally. She booked the trip with Climb Kili, a … [Read more...] about How did Baton Rouge accountant spend 50th birthday? Conquering Mount Kilimanjaro

Making a dog’s breakfast of Nigeria’s digital switchover

· March 5, 2021 ·

Kindly Share This Story: By Torisheju Arayi Anybody interested in Nigeria’s plan to transit from analogue to digital broadcasting knows that it has floundered rather than flourished since 2008 when the Federal Government set up a Presidential Advisory Committee (PAC) on transition from the analogue broadcast platform to the digital platform. This was sequel to the country, along with over 100 others, signing the 2006 International Telecommunications Union (ITU) agreement prescribing a transition from analogue to digital broadcasting for signatories by June 2015. In 2019, the PAC submitted its report, giving 17 June 2009 as the deadline for completion. Thus, began Nigeria’s march, if it could be called that, to digital transition. The 2009 deadline went unmet, forcing a postponement. The recommendations of the PAC grew mould in some office cabinets. Three years later, the government woke up to inaugurate DigiTeam Nigeria which, on paper, was to … [Read more...] about Making a dog’s breakfast of Nigeria’s digital switchover
