New SafeEntry Gateway device on trial at Downtown East to make TraceTogether check-ins more convenient

· November 28, 2020 ·

SINGAPORE: Checking in at public venues using TraceTogether could become easier and faster, if a new device on trial at Downtown East mall gets the green light. Designed and built by the Smart Nation and Digital Government Group (SNDGG), the SafeEntry Gateway aims to provide a “more seamless and convenient check-in experience” for TraceTogether users, who can avoid the long queues to scan QR codes or their identity cards for SafeEntry check-in that are sometimes seen during peak hours at popular venues. The SafeEntry Gateway detects active TraceTogether app and token users, and records visitors’ check-ins by exchanging Bluetooth signals. Token users just have to bring their tokens within 5 to 15cm of the device to scan in, while those using the phone app will have to turn on their Bluetooth, open the app and bring their phone close to the device. A beep sound and a light will be triggered when the check-in is successful. Sleep tracking on Android is about to get a lot better with Google’s new Sleep API

· February 26, 2021 ·

Better battery life Google's new Sleep API enables low-power sleep tracking on Android devices. Babu Mohan 26 Feb 2021 0 Source: Google What you need to know Google is making its Sleep API publicly available. The API is used to power features like Bedtime mode in Google's Clock app. Developers can now use the Sleep API as part of the latest Google Play Services. Google has decided to make its Sleep API publicly available to help Android users stay informed about their sleep and allow developers to create great sleep tracking apps that have minimal impact on battery life. Most developers currently use detection algorithms that are inconsistent between apps. When multiple apps check for changes in user activity independently and continuously, your phone's battery drains faster than usual. Nick Grayson, Product Manager at Google, wrote in a blog post : So much of what we do relies on a good night's rest. Our phones have become … [Read more...] about Sleep tracking on Android is about to get a lot better with Google’s new Sleep API

Poor infrastructures plague HCMC western gateway

· February 26, 2021 ·

Unfinished connection from Vo Van Kiet Street to National Route 1A One of the most frequently congested areas is the Nguyen Van Linh overpass - National Route 1A, the intersection linking HCMC and cross-region highways which receive insane traffic each day. As a result, some narrow sections of these streets have become degraded faster, making the traffic jams and air pollution more severe. IDICO, a prominent urban development company, in the past proposed a BOT project to get funds for upgrading the National Highway running through An Suong - An Lac, involving expanding the road to accommodate four car lanes and two mix-traffic lanes. The project was worth VND1,880 billion at the time (about US$81.5 million, but never came to fruition due to administrative complications. Besides the aforementioned locations, many other sections along major highways cannot meet the increasing traffic volume such as sections on national routes 1A and 50, Dinh Duc Thien Street and others, which … [Read more...] about Poor infrastructures plague HCMC western gateway

Eero for Service Providers: Eero Wi-Fi mesh targeted at ISPs

· October 7, 2020 ·

This Tuesday, Eero—one of the first and most popular Wi-Fi-mesh providers—announced a new hardware and software program that targets ISPs rather than retail customers. Ars spoke about the new program at length with Nick Weaver, Eero founder and CEO, and Mark Sieglock, Eero's GM of Software Services.
