Vietnam requested closer coordination between APEC members to develop a smart joint tourism sector built on service, management and marketing, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho Anh Tuan said. In a meeting with the Vietnam News Agency on September 15, Tuan reported on the outcomes of the recently concluded 8 th tourism ministerial meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), held in Macao, China. The Vietnamese delegation proposed collaboration between tourism, transport and education sectors, making it easier to establish direct flights and launch cruise routes. The education sector should encourage young people to travel within APEC, he said. Hoi An to Host APEC Tourism Ministerss Forum The ancient town of Hoi An, the World Heritage site in central Quang Nam province will host the 29th meeting of the APEC Tourism Working Group (TWG) and the 4th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting (TMM) from October 12-19, according to the Vietnam National Administration for Tourism (VNAT). At the TWG meeting, slated for October 12-14, delegates from APEC member economies will propose and launch the implementation of APEC tourism cooperation projects with the intention of making tourism become a key industry in the region. APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting: An opportunity for Vietnam tourism Most of APEC member economies are key markets of Vietnam tourism. As a matter of fact, in most recent years, tourists from 21 APEC member economies make up over 70% of foreign tourists visiting Vietnam. In 2004, the percentage was 75% among 2.9 million foreign tourists. In 2005 it was respectively 72% and 3.47 million. In the first eight months of this year, among 2.46 million foreign tourists visiting Vietnam, 1.77 million are from APEC member economies or 74%. On the occasion of APEC Vietnam 2006, Vietnam tourism is actively promoting its image to attract foreign tourists in the next stage. Expanding tourism cooperation with APEC member countries
The tourism sector needs to work closely together with other sectors, including transport and education, to make full use of their infrastructure to spur tourism development. Vietnamese Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ho Anh Tuan made the suggestion at the recent 8th APEC Tourism Ministerial Meeting in Macau, China. Noting the strong development of the internet, social networks, and smart devices, Tuan suggested APEC member states support each other in using new information and communication technology concerning services, management and advertising, in the tourism sector.
