“The unbelievable deliciousness of Chef Tariq’s cooking had the ability to magic away reality.” That is what critics have been saying about Chef Tariq Helou and his pop-up restaurant Division Supper Club. Helou is half-Lebanese, one quarter Japanese, and one quarter Chinese. But most importantly, he is 100 per cent Singaporean. For eight months in 2019, this accomplished chef, who is still in his mid-twenties, ran one of the most exciting (and always sold out) private dining experiences in town. Division Supper Club, started with business partner Aidan Wee, popped up in restaurants all over Singapore, serving Helou’s unique East-West cuisine, which draws as much upon his own mixed heritage as it does his training in Europe and Japan. Helou and Wee have plans to open their first restaurant this year. The latest post on the Division Supper Club Instagram page teases us with a set of keys. Turns out, the pair have taken over a space on Rangoon Road, formerly the home of dessert … [Read more...] about Creative Capital: The multi-racial Singapore chef taking the private dining world by storm

Cricket-Late wickets spoil South Africa’s good work in first test v Pakistan
REUTERS: Aidan Markram and Rassie van der Dussen produced patient half centuries but Pakistan grabbed three late wickets as South Africa reached 187 for four in their second innings at the close on day three of a see-saw first test in Karachi. The tourists lead by 29 runs and have wiped out a first innings deficit after they trailed by 158 having earlier on Thursday bowled Pakistan out for 378. Captain Quinton de Kock has yet to score and will resume on the fourth morning with nightwatchman Keshav Maharaj (2 not out), the pair looking to push South Africa towards a total that will give them something to defend in Pakistan’s fourth innings. Their situation looked a lot brighter 30 minutes before the close but Pakistan’s spinners grabbed three big wickets as the shadows lengthened on the day. Markram (74 from 224 balls) put on 127 for the second wicket with Van der Dussen (64 from 151) to get their team into the lead, but the latter was caught at silly mid-off by Abid Ali … [Read more...] about Cricket-Late wickets spoil South Africa’s good work in first test v Pakistan
Halo Infinite is looking a lot better in these 4K screenshots
We got our first look at Halo Infinite , the next game in Microsoft’s huge franchise, back in July, and the results were... underwhelming. The graphics and visuals weren’t quite as impressive as you might expect from a next-generation game (the demo was running on a PC “that is representative of the experience that players will have on Xbox Series X”), and one vacant-looking enemy even became the infamous Craig meme . The game was delayed to 2021 a few weeks after the demo aired “to ensure the team has adequate time to deliver a Halo game experience that meets our vision.” On Thursday, though, developer 343 Industries shared new screenshots of Halo Infinite in 4K from an in-development PC version of the game, and the graphics look much better. We’ve included a few of the images below, and I recommend checking the full-sized versions on the Halo Waypoint blog and zooming in — the screenshots are packed with detail. (We’ve also included direct links to the full-size … [Read more...] about Halo Infinite is looking a lot better in these 4K screenshots
Filipina house cleaner admits $28,000 jewel theft from UK employers
LONDON - A Filipina house cleaner pleaded guilty to stealing more than £13,000 (S$28,000) worth of jewelry from her employer's mansion but was given a suspended sentence due to mitigating factors. Maylene Miguel, 38 years old, began working for David and Ulrike Levin at their multimillion-pound villa in Kensington, West London, in 2012. Mr. and Mrs. Levin, 66 and 70 years old respectively, have been living at the house in Kensington since the 1980s. Miguel was employed to do cleaning and ironing on Tuesdays and Fridays, amounting to seven hours of work per week. Suspicious According to Isleworth Crown Court, the Levins grew suspicious of Miguel when the wages of their other employees began to go missing, and after she asked the couple's daughter for a £6,000 loan. After the wage money went missing, the Levins left a unique diamond ring in their bedroom as bait. When they returned from holiday in May to find that the ring had disappeared, they realised that Miguel was the … [Read more...] about Filipina house cleaner admits $28,000 jewel theft from UK employers
