COPENHAGEN: Belgium enjoyed a comfortable 2-0 win away to Denmark thanks to a goal in each half from Jason Denayer and Dries Mertens in their Nations League A Group 2 clash on Saturday. Kasper Hjulmand's reign as Denmark coach got off to a bad start when Jason Denayer put the visitors ahead in the ninth minute after losing his marker to score from close range off Dries Mertens' corner. The home side pressed high up the pitch and captain Simon Kjaer did a good job of shackling Belgium's target man Romelu Lukaku but, despite decent chances for Martin Braithwaite and Christian Eriksen, they struggled to get many shots on target. The Belgians took over in the second half, with substitute Dennis Praet snapping up the ball form an attempted clearance and forcing a smart save from Kasper Schmeichel. COPENHAGEN: Denmark's financial watchdog has launched an investigation into how Danske Bank could wrongly collect debt from up to 106,000 customers since 2004, it said late on Tuesday. Danske said on Monday that due to errors in its IT system, it had collected outdated or excessive debt, and that it was currently reviewing all potential cases to ensure customers are fully compensated. The FSA said in a statement it had trusted the debt collection errors had been rectified, after Danske updated the watchdog about the case in October last year. The watchdog said it decided to launch an investigation following the news that surfaced on Monday. Danske Bank did not immediately reply to a request for comment. BRUSSELS: Several European countries have started testing a technology platform that will allow national coronavirus tracing apps to 'talk' to one another to better tackle the pandemic, the European Commission said on Monday (Sep 14). The Commission has kicked off test runs between the servers that support the apps created by the Czech Republic, Denmark, Germany, Ireland, Italy and Latvia - whose apps share a similar design - and a new gateway to exchange data between them. "Many member states have implemented national contact tracing and warning applications. It is now time to make them interact with each other," Commissioner Thierry Breton said in a statement. LYON, France: Denmark's Soren Kragh Andersen timed his effort to perfection to win the 14th stage of the Tour de France, a 194.5-km ride from Clermont-Ferrand on Saturday. The Team Sunweb rider attacked with just under three kilometres to go and never looked back as Slovenian Luka Mezgec took second place and Italian Simone Consonni came home third, 15 seconds behind. Slovenian Primoz Roglic retained the overall leader's yellow jersey ahead of Sunday 15th stage, a 174.5-km mountain trek ending up the Col du Grand Colombier. Triple world champion Peter Sagan regained some ground on points classification leader Sam Bennett when he finished fourth after the Irishman was dropped early on and could not fight for victory in the finale. AARHUS, Denmark: South Korea and Indonesia have withdrawn from next month's Thomas and Uber Cup Finals in Denmark, the Badminton World Federation (BWF) said in a statement on Saturday (Sep 12). The two countries join Australia, Taiwan and Thailand in skipping the Oct 3 to Oct 11 tournament amid the COVID-19 pandemic. The Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) said it was concerned that players could contract COVID-19 during the tournament. The PBSI also confirmed that its players would not participate in the Denmark Open and Denmark Masters scheduled in October. Indonesia have won the men's Thomas Cup a record 13 times and women's Uber Cup thrice. Thailand announced their withdrawal earlier this week, citing injuries and other COVID-19 related issues. Replacements for the teams have yet to be announced.
