New tax rule to hit berry pickers’ income in Sweden
Berry picking in Sweden is a highly-sought job among Thai workers, but things may change this year after the Scandinavian country introduced a special income tax for short-term foreign workers. Under the new tax regime approved by Swedish lawmakers in November last year, foreign workers who are employed no more than 183 days per year will pay a 25% income tax. Suchart Pornchaiwisetkul, director-general of the Department of Employment (DoE), said a campaign is now under way to inform Thai job seekers and job placement agencies of the new tax rules. Thais usually travel to Sweden and Finland to take up jobs at berry farms between July and September every year. In Sweden, for instance, the minimum monthly income is guaranteed at 23,500 Swedish krona, or about 85,070 baht. According to labour officials estimates, Thai workers can expect to bring home between 13,327-31,156 baht for three months of work, after taxes and living expenses. UK remains preferred for overseas education
The United Kingdom has eclipsed the United States as the most preferred overseas study destination for Chinese mainland students for the third year in a row, a new report showed. According to the 2021 White Book on Chinese Students for Overseas Education, the UK was preferred by 29.8 percent of respondents, while the US was preferred by 24.5 percent. The UK first topped the table in 2019, before last year's COVID-19 outbreak disrupted many students' overseas study plans, with 20.1 percent preferring the UK and 17 percent the US. Australia was the third most popular destination this year with 16.5 percent, followed by Canada at 15.8 percent, Hong Kong at 13.7 percent and Japan at 8.8 percent. The report, released by education consultancy EIC Education on Saturday, was based on a survey of 1,380 students. How will Hanoi relocate 215,000 people in four inner city districts?
In the near future, the population of Hoan Kiem district will be 100,000, Ba Dinh district 160,000, Dong Da district 255,000, and Hai Ba Trung district 157,000, according to urban planning for the four inner districts released on March 23. The map of the subdivision planning of four historic inner-city districts has been approved by the Hanoi People's Committee. Nguyen Duc Hung, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Construction Planning Institute, said that under the planning Hoan Kiem district will include the old quarter, Hoan Kiem lake and vicinity, and the old streets with a total area of 347.65 hectares. The estimated population for the district will be 100,000. The current population of Hoan Kiem district is 91,219. CBN disburses N1.487trn to boost food security

The CBN Governor, Mr Godwin Emefiele, made this known while presenting the communiqué on the Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting held on Monday and Tuesday in Abuja. Emefiele said that the apex bank disbursed N107.60 billion to 548,109 farmers cultivating 703,619 hectares of land between the fourth quarter of 2020 and the first quarter of 2021 to boost dry season output. He said, “total disbursements as at end-February 2021 amounted to N1.487 trillion under the various agricultural programmes, of which N686.59 billion was disbursed under the Commercial Agricultural Credit Scheme (CACS).
