The tourists, who elected to bat, went at just two runs an over but did well to not lose a wicket against a disciplined attack. In fact, it was only in the seventh over that Chanderpaul opened his account with a pulled boundary off Richard Ngarava, it also turned out to be the first four of the day for the West Indies. In the 13th over, Brathwaite then essayed his first boundary of his innings when he flicked medium pacer Victor Nyauchi to the boundary hoardings. For the home side, Ngarava found a hint of movement and also beat Brathwaite a couple of times on the outside edge but with no reward to show for his discipline.
