The Magic Circle has made history by electing its first-ever female president – breaking a tradition of electing men that has lasted for 116 years. The group is an elite organisation where entry cannot be bought, it has to be earned, and until 1991 you were unable to earn it as a woman as the club was strictly for men. But the governing organisation of the magic industry has shown it is progressive, as they have appointed their first female president – Megan Swann, 28. Megan, from Eltham, London, said that the appointment was an ‘honour’, and that she hopes she can be an inspiration for other women and show that ‘they are welcome in the magic community’.
