Lori Loughlin, her fashioner designer husband and other parents in college admissions scandal ask judge to dismiss charges, arguing holding the cases in Massachusetts serves the prosecution

Attorneys for Lori Loughlin, her husband and a dozen other parents charged in connection to the college admissions scandal on Wednesday filed a series of motions asking a judge to dismiss the charges against them, arguing that Massachusetts is the wrong venue for their cases. Defense lawyers for the 14 parents argued in one of the motions that the alleged scheme involved people who do not live in Massachusetts conspiring with college admissions consultant Rick Singer, who lived in California, to get their children into colleges and universities out of state. The lawyers for the parents claimed that Massachusetts was picked as a venue for their cases to ‘accommodate the government’s preferences,’ even though the alleged crimes have no connection to the state. keeping their cases in Massachusetts serves the prosecution’s interests.
