The first egg hatched in the bald eagle nest at Codorus State Park near Hanover, York County, shortly after 9 a.m. Thursday, April 4.The adult bald eagles have been brooding their first nestling of 2019, while awaiting what could be the imminent hatching of their second egg.The first egg was laid shortly after 5 p.m. February 26.The second egg was laid at 6:23 p.m. March 1.The bald eagles nesting at the site had a challenging, ultimately failing, year in 2018. After repairing the partially collapsed nest, they were attacked by other, territory-seeking, bald eagles, and the two eggs the female had laid on February 20 and 23 ultimately failed to hatch. Those eggs came more than a week later than 2017’s eggs, which she laid the first on February 10 and the second on February 13. The first egg hatched March 20 and the second on March 21. By June 7 both eaglets were experimenting with flying away from the nest.In 2016, eggs were laid on February 18 and 21.
