A hot-shooting first quarter by Jacob Belote sparks Williamsville North over Clarence, 68-46, Tuesday night, giving the Spartans (10-2) the undisputed ECIC I boys basketball championship. It was the third loss in the division for Clarence. It was the first division championship in the sport since 2016 for North. Belote scored 23 points, including 13 in the opening quarter as the Spartans avenged a home loss to Clarence last month. The senior guard hit three 3-pointers in the first period as North rolled to a 23-7 lead. It was 35-25 at the half with Belote getting 16 points. He also had four rebounds, four assists and five steals. “No matter who we put in, right up and down the roster, they did what we asked them to do,” said North coach Chuck Swierski. “It was our most complete game of the year.” Breht Swiech had 16 points for the Spartans. Jonathan Abaya had six rebounds, six assists, seven steals and five blocks for the Spartans. Zach Ianello led Clarence with 23 points.
