These new hi-tech Derby buses will take passengers into the FUTURE

Buses that will take Derby commuters into the future have been launched across the city. Fifteen ultra-low emission buses have joined Trentbarton’s Indigo fleet which will contribute to Derby City Council’s mission to improve the city’s air quality. Inside, commuters will enjoy skylights, audio and visual next-stop announcements and soon they will also have “media bars”, featuring contactless charging – a first for Derby. Indigo runs 24-hours-a-day, seven-days-a-week, linking Derby with Long Eaton, Beeston and Nottingham. Bosses at the bus company have outlined the need for the new vehicles and have stated what people should look out for and can expect from the buses as they make their way around between Derby and Notttingham. Jeff Counsell, managing director of Trentbarton, said: “An attractive, frequent, reliable and low-emission public transport network needs to be central to the plans if Derby is to meet its objectives. “Creating a clean air zone is going to require significant and joined-up action by a wide-range of organisations, including public transport providers.
