Joe Root gives England sense of renewal ahead of Pakistan Test

There has been a sense of renewal about England this week in the build up to Thursday’s first Test against Pakistan at Lord’s. Joe Root has laid down the law on how he wants his team to train and prepare for matches, injecting a new level of discipline after a winter in which England lost six out of seven Tests and were dogged by stories of off-field boozing. Dominic Bess will become England’s youngest spinner for 87 years when he is handed his cap and has said he wants to attack like Graeme Swann, a confidence that was not heard from Moeen Ali and Liam Dawson, the two spinners who played at Lord’s this time last year.
