Here’s one way to get out of gridlock. A woman gave birth to the first of two twins on the Cross Bronx Expressway during a major traffic snarl Wednesday morning — but made it to the hospital in time for the second twin’s arrival, officials said. The drama began on the heavily traveled elevated highway near Exit 4 about 11:40 a.m. with the woman in labor pains inside her husband’s car, officials said. When emergency personnel arrived, a son had already been welcomed into the world. Paramedics rushed the mom and newborn to Jacobi Medical Center, where the second twin, a girl, was born, hospital officials said. “We’re pleased to report both the mother and her babies are doing well,” Jacobi spokesman John Doyle said in a statement. “She is in fair condition after giving birth to a baby boy in good condition and a baby girl in fair condition this afternoon.” The new mom named her twins Tavon and Talia. “I’m fine,” said the new mom, who wished not to be named. “I’m in a little pain, but everything is OK.” The baby’s dramatic arrival was the second time that a city road was turned into a maternity ward… Read full this story
