This past weekend was the first I had to myself after our Challenger trek through Europe. I know I’m going to get little sympathy for my all-expenses-paid tour of Western Europe, but let me tell you, 17 consecutive days on the road can be brutal, especially if it ends with four days of English weather and food. Spotted dick, anyone? A relaxing, non-automotive weekend with the significant other is just what the doctor ordered, and happy to say it was available in the form of the 2008 Red Bull U.S. Grand Prix at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca. I went for the first time in 2006 as a guest of Mazda. That year I rode up with a buddy, me on my Honda 919, he on a borrowed Yamaha V-Max. Though neither is the ideal long-haul tourer, we had a great time winding our way up the coast to Monterey and watching American Nicky Hayden take the checkered flag.
